Dunn & Associates is a Calgary criminal defence firm. Impaired driving. Drinking and driving. Driving under the influence, or a DUI. Over 80 blood alcohol content. No matter how it is described, alcohol-related driving offences are one of the most heavily litigated areas of criminal law — but also one of the most defensible, because of the often technical and precise nature of the law and the instruments involved.
We defend impaired driving, over 80 and refusal charges, and we help drivers respond to Alberta Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS). Our lawyer Vince Semenuk represents people charged with impaired driving and DUI in Lethbridge and across Alberta. Book a free consultation to discuss your case.
Drunk driving can occur in all segments of society. Often, the people charged with impaired driving offences are ordinary citizens who did not feel drunk, did not act drunk and did not drive erratically, but still provided breath samples over the legal limit. Your driver’s licence is suspended from the moment you are charged — before any conviction — so it is important to get advice early.
Vince Semenuk, an associate with our firm, was born and raised in Calgary and was called to the Bar in 2015. He practises criminal law at the Provincial Court and King’s Bench trial levels, provides affordable counsel in impaired driving and dangerous driving cases, and appears regularly in Traffic Court. He accepts private and Legal Aid retainers and appears in all Provincial Court locations across Alberta, including Lethbridge. He can be reached 24 hours a day at 403-797-2318.
From Alberta DUI Lawyers: most impaired driving stops in Alberta start with an Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) under the Traffic Safety Act, and police can also lay Criminal Code charges. An IRS FAIL — for a reading of 0.08 or more, or for refusing a breath or drug demand — brings a 90-day licence suspension, a 30-day vehicle seizure and a $1,000 fine on a first occurrence, followed by a longer suspension during which you can drive only with an ignition interlock. You have only 7 days to ask SafeRoads Alberta for a review, so speak with a lawyer right away. Read our Alberta impaired driving laws guide for more.
